Friends and Allies,
Today, we are witnessing a dangerous game of political posturing at the expense of truth and integrity. Governor Jeff Landry's statements yesterday regarding the U.S.-Mexico border crisis and immigration are not only misleading but egregiously false. By inferring criminal activity by immigrants and advocating for Louisiana's National Guard deployment to the border, Governor Landry is shamelessly playing politics with the lives of vulnerable individuals and communities.
In a recent interview, Governor Landry attempts to stoke fear and division by painting immigrants as perpetrators of criminality, conveniently ignoring the complex realities of migration and the humanitarian crises that drive people to seek refuge in the United States. His insinuations regarding the influx of drugs and human trafficking across the border serve only to further a narrative of xenophobia and discrimination rather than addressing the root causes of these issues with compassion and evidence-based policy solutions.
In addition, Governor Landry's assertion that immigrants in Louisiana are actively recruiting juveniles to engage in criminal activities is not only unfounded but perpetuates harmful stereotypes and prejudices against immigrant communities. Such baseless claims also permeate Governor Landry’s recent Executive Order on “Identifying, Quantifying, and MItigating the Adverse Effects of Illegal Immigration on Louisiana.”
